Course description

Learn the views. Build the sequence. Know the limits.

The Abdominal POCUS Weekend is an intensive, instructor-guided course for clinicians who want a practical approach to bedside abdominal ultrasound. The weekend combines focused instruction with repeated image acquisition so participants can move from probe orientation and optimization to an organized examination.

Learners will practice core abdominal views, review common pathology and pitfalls, and receive feedback on image quality, measurements, and clinical integration. Healthy live models support hands-on scanning; de-identified cases reinforce findings that may not be present during the lab.

Core curriculum

A structured abdominal POCUS foundation

The course emphasizes image acquisition, a consistent scanning sequence, recognition of common findings, and appropriate clinical limits.

MODULE 01

Physics, probes & knobology

Probe selection, orientation, depth, gain, focus, image optimization, measurements, and safe equipment handling.

MODULE 02

Liver & hepatobiliary

Liver windows, gallbladder views, biliary assessment, common artifacts, and practical scanning pitfalls.

MODULE 03

Aorta & IVC

Systematic abdominal aorta imaging, diameter measurement, AAA screening views, and IVC visualization.

MODULE 04

Kidneys & bladder

Renal long- and short-axis views, hydronephrosis patterns, bladder imaging, and volume assessment.

MODULE 05

Spleen & free fluid

Splenic windows, dependent spaces, pelvic free-fluid views, and an integrated abdominal survey.

MODULE 06

Clinical integration

Documentation, quality standards, case-based interpretation, limitations, escalation, and practical assessment.
