Intro to physics, knobology, image acquisition, ALARA, ergonomics, and core scanning technique with supervised live scanning.

Open Scan Labs — Live Model Practice with Technologist Guidance

Open Scan Labs give clinicians who have prior ultrasound exposure—or who have completed a Hampton Roads Ultrasound course—structured time to practice on live models in our facility with registered sonographer/technologist guidance. This is a high-yield way to sharpen probe handling, anatomy recognition, image optimization, and workflow speed in a realistic, supervised environment.

Important: Open Scan Labs are designed for practice and skills consolidation. Scan time is not CME-accredited. Competency sign-offs and case logs can be facilitated on request, per institutional requirements.

  • Supervised scanning on standardized/live models at the HRU facility
  • Guidance from registered sonographer(s) on windows, optimization, and ergonomics
  • Focus on practical anatomy & common pathologies encountered in POCUS
  • Practice across areas such as AAA/aorta, cardiac windows, DVT venous mapping, renal/bladder, hepatobiliary/IVC, soft tissue/MSK, thyroid, testicular, and pelvic (as permitted by policy)
